Carbon Matters is looking at a number of influencing factors to help in the choice of projects to fund or manage:

ü     The project must have positive impact on the environment and be in the market sector that helps reduce CO2 emissions regardless of method; whether by technology, or alternative practices or substitution or sequestration

ü     Wherever possible and appropriate the project should be registered by the CDM for CO2 offset trading

ü     It must not adversely affect or have a negative impact on the local community, environment or habitat

ü     It must encourage the active participation of the local community and NGO's and provide useful employment

ü     It must be legal, legitimate and have the support of the any local administration

ü     It should offer multiple benefits to the environment and community

ü     It should be financially sustainable, feasible and meet the aims and objectives of the investors or sponsors as appropriate

ü     It must meet the aims and ambitions of any board of Trustees from a participating or benefiting Registered Charity particularly those promoting conservation and species protection including managed eco tourism

ü     It must be deemed to be appropriate by both scale and sector to enhance the opportunity of success

ü     It must be verifiable and independently auditable
